Today, God truly broke my heart for His people. It was the first time on the Race that I have cried over the people we are ministering to. This month, we are working at a home for mentally & physically disabled adults here in Honduras. It has been very challenging, uncomfortable, and heavy. The residents are sweet as can be, but seeing them struggle has been really difficult for me. As I was sitting on the porch with them this morning, I became very overwhelmed. On my right, there’s a girl who is crying because she is petrified of people. To my left, there’s a boy who is sitting there choking on his own spit. Then there’s the three girls who are bound to a wheel chair who constantly cry because their bodies are in pain. Not only this, but they are either orphans or have been abandoned by their families simply because they are different.  I had to go take a walk and pray because my heart was so broken for them.

Luckily, the Lord had some encouraging words for me:

I felt like He was saying, “I’ve told you before that your heart looks a lot like mine, and now your heart is finally breaking like mine does over my people. This is great news. These people are so precious to me, and they have not been forgotten. They will join me in paradise one day. Keep loving them— It will make all the difference. Never stop telling them about me.”

This encouraged me to try my best to love them like Jesus would love them, and to know that was all that was necessary for me to do. So, I went back to the house and loved on them, danced with them, spoke words about Jesus in Spanish to them, and just let them know that I was there for them.

God’s love is not passive, it’s never disengaged, it’s always PRESENT. What an example we have to follow!

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” -John 16:33

It gave me a peace to know that like myself, they won’t suffer forever. So much glory is in store.

I remember praying before the Race for God to break my heart for what breaks His, and He has been answering that prayer. Praise!
